Motivation for new job

I just finished reading the book which was written by Ukrainian immigrant living and working in the USA. Apparently, man is IT programming guru. In his book “Enterprise Software Without the BS” he gives good few advises that are applicable to any other industry. Here are some extracts that really impressed me:

“If you feel underpaid and being taken advantage of… Hit the job market. You might be surprised – for some reason no one else want to hire you. This may give you a piece of mind and ring a bell –its time to study again.”

That is very surprising however it is very true. This relates to anyone who is facing difficulty to find job. With crisis out of the window employers are kneeing to find more skilled professionals for less money. It is also applicable to immigrants. When you are at home – you are person who knows some skills, speak your language and additionally speak fluent English (or any other foreign language). However, when you are living in new country- you are simply like everybody else or even worse, since everybody speaks English.

“Your resume should be customized for each job you are applying to.”

I would agree to it but only half way. When you are applying for job it is also number game – meaning the more you send, the better! Nevertheless, it is important to adjust your CV to the industry, to the most important employer for you and etc.

“Do the same things as others but do them a little better then other”

Basically if you like what you do – become obsessed about it! Read books, go to the professional meeting, talk to people – then you would not need to look for a job, it will find you!

“It is going to be better any moment just don’t stop fighting looking for work is a full time job and has to be done the right way.”

Positive attitude is always healthy. My personal moto is “if it is very hard, soon it will be very good” Usually it is true :)

This book is written by Yakov Fain and is available on the internet online.
