It is very handy form of education if you can make yourself study at home. There are few options available like: 100%internet course, and 80% internet course and then rest 20%(which are usually exams) are taken at the university site. Advantages of this type of education are remote location (basically student can be located in any part of the world) and attractive cost (it is significantly less expensive in comparison to any other university course). Disadvantages: no direct contact with your mentor and classmates, necessity of study on your own (not many people can actually create schedule for themselves and follow it), and necessity of constant usage of computer, internet, and programs (even if you feel as advanced user of internet/computer, it is still may be a bit more difficult to have all your education online).
Please take a good care in choosing online education. This is something relatively new on the market and most people don’t feel comfortable with. It is very reasonable because, when you are doing education in the university – you can see it, touch, ask people questions, and etc. While if education is online it less tangible so probability of risk is high. When you are choosing online university carefully check rating of the university and detailed program of the course. Most of these universities diplomas will be as valued and recognized as any other university. However, simple call to the reception will help to clarify that question.
There are few online universities that according to the internet rankings are well recognized and popular.

I personally prefer to undertake distant education at any already existing university with good name that does both course in campus and online. For me it sounds safer as it is a bit more tangible. Usually in these types of programs you will be required to travel to the university to take your exams, but at least you get to see your professors :) Additional advantage of this form of education is diploma of university which is recognized and trusted (and only at interview you may mention that it was online course.
My last advise in relation to distant education is to choose program wisely. I was just browsing internet the other day and found this online courses -www.kilroyscollege.ie . They are asking to pay more then 500eur for course –Communication Skills while the same course can be done free at or at FAS.

Continuing Education
I have mentioned few times that if job is not found that easily it is time to start education. Let’s assume that choice was made in the favor of the study. However, the very first question now is where to study and which program to choose. When you are teenager and have to go to the collage you are simply have to go to the collage. Parents often “help” choose university, however students tent don’t really pay attention to the study and simply get time pass. When you grow up and then are looking for education it is completely different experience. Now, when you know you are paying money for this, it becomes crucial how you are going to spend your time and what you are going to learn after that.
There are so many offers available on the market:
-online education
-university abroad
-part time/full time program
-degree/course
-universities with different rankings
Let’s look at each and every one in more details.

Motivation for new job
I just finished reading the book which was written by Ukrainian immigrant living and working in the USA. Apparently, man is IT programming guru. In his book “Enterprise Software Without the BS” he gives good few advises that are applicable to any other industry. Here are some extracts that really impressed me:
“If you feel underpaid and being taken advantage of… Hit the job market. You might be surprised – for some reason no one else want to hire you. This may give you a piece of mind and ring a bell –its time to study again.”
That is very surprising however it is very true. This relates to anyone who is facing difficulty to find job. With crisis out of the window employers are kneeing to find more skilled professionals for less money. It is also applicable to immigrants. When you are at home – you are person who knows some skills, speak your language and additionally speak fluent English (or any other foreign language). However, when you are living in new country- you are simply like everybody else or even worse, since everybody speaks English.
“Your resume should be customized for each job you are applying to.”
I would agree to it but only half way. When you are applying for job it is also number game – meaning the more you send, the better! Nevertheless, it is important to adjust your CV to the industry, to the most important employer for you and etc.
“Do the same things as others but do them a little better then other”
Basically if you like what you do – become obsessed about it! Read books, go to the professional meeting, talk to people – then you would not need to look for a job, it will find you!
“It is going to be better any moment just don’t stop fighting looking for work is a full time job and has to be done the right way.”
Positive attitude is always healthy. My personal moto is “if it is very hard, soon it will be very good” Usually it is true :)

Meetings with professionals
In both cases weather you are trying to get into new industry you are interested in or you have been made redundant and want to get into your industry – it is a great idea to visit professional meetings and conferences! They can be easily found by simply typing in the search engine “java …country name, or marketing … country name”. The most popular forums or magazines, or communities should pop up – this is basically what you are looking for. Pick up one (not too expensive at the beginning) and go. Here are reasons why:
1) You get to know people, and they get to know you
2) You will get better and inside understanding on what people are doing in their day to day job
3) What are potential employers are there
4) What are industry challenges, trends, opportunities
Here I am straight from one of such meetings. My first impression – I am scared, what to do with all this people, how to talk, what to talk about, else. My second impression – no matter how small this country is marketing people are doing very good job! However my last impression was -being immigrant in the foreign country is hard enough, however, looking for the job in the area of marketing or sales in the foreign country is like 100 times harder. There are reasons for that
1) Language. Being as good or bad as I am in English I still find it difficult to communicate with people. Sometimes for me it is hard to understand what they are saying (simply because there are so many words/expressions that I don’t know and don’t use on everyday basis) and on other times I find it hard to understand what they are talking about (simply because I was born in other country and we haven’t had this or that TV series going on our channels)
2) Culture. In spite of the fact that Irish people as well as Ukrainian people like to drink and also grow potato – strangely enough, we drink different things in different quantities and we grow absolutely different potatoes… What I am trying to say – is that I am scared to talk to people sometime as I don’t know what to say to them. The hardest times comes when trying to make jokes. It is absolutely disaster for most of the times. When I am trying my best to translate this or that joke from my language, which I know is funny – they simply don’t get it. I am not sure here if it is language problem or cultural, or both! I have good friend she is Russian and her boyfriend is English. I clearly see it time to time – when she is saying something, that makes perfect sense to me, however doesn’t ring a bell for him.
3) Business. I don’t have huge experience in business. However, all that I know is not working here. In Ukraine it is highly important to know people! When some initial contact is established conversation regarding job may pop up followed by, probably, job offer or else. Here, when I was trying to approach people the way I would used to – they just scared away and looked at me as if I was speaking marsian.
The only thing that makes me think that finding a job in marketing/sales industry is even ever possible in this country for me is – power of education and knowledge that marketing people of Ireland also inspired by world’s legacies! In spite of the fact that Rugby is not anywhere else popular as it is here and no where any one knows about GAA – it is still one of the sports. Theoretically same rules as to football, tennis… should apply….

Life statement
I was just recently in the swimming pool in the morning and saw quote from one of the professional swimmers that I think is very inspiring.
For myself, losing is not coming second. It's getting out of the water knowing you could have done better. For myself, I have won every race I've been in. Ian Thorpe
I believe it is very true statement. It is all about your performance! You know that nervous feeling when you just before very important interview or exam… Well, it is possible to ease this feeling taking the above statement into practice. No worries – just perform to your best!!!

It is time to move on
Couple years ago my husband and I migrated from Ukraine to start “new” life in Ireland. I really like this country. However it is extremely small!!!!! It is tremendously hard to find job (one thing is crisis, the other thing is lack of companies with job opportunities)… I was very depressed and the fact of not having job I like to have made me depressed even more.
It is strange how past sometime can hold us in its mighty and tightly hands:) Without realizing it I was mourning about coming back to life I had…. I was very unhappy with current situation and really wanted to change. However, all those small splashes of outrageous and attempts I was doing could not save day and change my situation immediately. I believe more serious efforts were/are required. Things have to change completely and now it is time to do it step by step from the beginning….again….
I suppose what I didn’t realize before was- I already had my past, I took all the best I could from it and now it is time to move on. Path to this unknown and mysterious world turned up to be enormously hard. Specially at the early stages of acceptance :)
Having outstanding experience in past and not that great now may actually create some sort of loop. It is like smocking addiction- it is much easier to complain rather then do something.
Well, here I am again, starting it again all over from the beginning. I will try my best this time to get it through and find job I will be proud of, will love it, and that will give me constant growth, development and challenges. It will take lots of time (as I know now, things don’t happen over night, unfortunately) I will keep this blog updated with all my efforts and examples of other people.
